The NRSC seeks Republican support as it promotes Mark Kirk

The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) recently sent out this appeal for donations, insisting that they finally "get it", and that the Democrats in the Senate still don't.

We shall see.  What do you think?  After all, they pushed Mark Kirk at us as a candidate from their top-down perspective to win back power in Washington DC because they thought he had the campaign money and "moderate" record to win.  The news media in Washington and Chicago also helped to anoint him as the candidate by not taking any of the more conservative primary challengers very seriously.  Both candidates have been broadcasting lots of advertising at us, and spending lots of money attacking each other, but have either really been listening to voters?

Remember, they backed Sue Lowden in NV, Mike Castle in DE, Charlie Crist in FL, and Lisa Murkowski in AK.  They backed John McCain in an ugly $20 million primary fight.  The list goes on.  If the Illinois primary hadn't been on February 2, would Mark Kirk have won so easily?  We'll never know.  The point is that the NRSC is definitely singing a different tune today than it was earlier this year, when they were still confident that the party leaders in Washington always know what is best for us, if voters would just have the wisdom to stop complaining and listen to them.

Dear Supporter,

It's mind boggling - Washington Democrats still don't get what this election is about. Despite their own supporters complaining at town halls, their own candidates running away from the party's agenda and numerous polls showing Americans are becoming increasinly frustrated, Democrat leadership can't bring themselves to look in the mirror and say, "We screwed up." Who do they blame for their predicament instead?

You.

Nancy Pelosi told us that once the health care bill passed the American public could finally find out what was in it and would like it. They did, and they still don’t like it. The day after 71 percent of Missourians rejected the health care bill Harry Reid said that voters just don’t get it and once they learn more about the bill they’ll like it. They still don’t. And now we have a testy John Kerry, blaming the voters for the Democrats' plunging poll numbers saying they just don’t get it.

No Senator Kerry - you and your colleagues don’t get it. The American people are tired of high spending, record debt and a bloated federal government. Voters don’t want leaders who will tell them they just don’t get it. They want leaders who will listen to them, who will spend less and focus on the issues that will get our country back on track.

The Democrats' arrogance is only getting worse by the day. We have less than five weeks until Election Day. Send a message to beltway Democrats you do get what's happening in this country and that is why you are voting for change.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee is committed to helping elect Republican candidates for the U.S. Senate across the country. We have a record number of races where our candidates are tied or leading, but we need the resources to help them fight back against the liberal special interest and Hollywood money flowing into their campaign coffers.

Will you give $25, $50, $100, $250 or even $500 immediately so we can stay on the air and help our Republican candidates like Joe Miller in Alaska , Sharron Angle in Nevada, Marco Rubio in Florida and Christine O’Donnell in Delaware?

Together we can show the Democrats that we do get it. They’ll find out just how much we do on November 2.

Sincerely,

John Cornyn

NRSC Chairman

So, what do you think?  Would you be inclined to donate to the NRSC, or the RNC or the NRCC (for support of Republican candidates in the House), or would you be more inclined to support individual candidates in whom you have confidence as your representative?  Would you donate to the party and trust the leaders, or support PACs or local conservative groups which reflect your concerns?

The NRSC was touting their support for "Tea Party" candidates recently such as Marco Rubio, Sharron Angle, Joe Miller, Christine O'Donnell and others in a fundraising appeal less than two weeks ago, but now they're already pulling their support for Marco Rubio to favor their usual candidates like Mark Kirk, who now gets an extra $2 million. If he was such a brilliant choice when the GOP leadership in DC and Illinois pushed him at voters in the primary, why does he need their help now to save his campaign against a weak candidate like Giannoulias? The NRSC leadership claimed that they "get it". Do they?

They were also rather embarrassed today when one of their consultants just treated West Virginia voters like "hicks", which could put an important race in jeopardy after it looked as though the Republican had a surprisingly good chance of victory. This sort of arrogant and condescending attitude toward voters among "leaders" in Washington - in both parties - is outrageous.
